Car Hire PICK UP AT FARO AIRPORT

For some properties, car hire is essential, and for others it is recommended. We deal with an excellent local company in the Algarve, and we have made special arrangements at Faro Airport for you to collect and return your hire car. Most car hire companies at Faro Airport operate a shuttle bus service from the airport to their nearby depot’s, where you will complete the paperwork and collect and return your hire car. In our opinion, this can cause you much stress by waiting around for the shuttle bus, and loading and unloading your luggage onto the bus, both on arrival and departure. It is not the best start to your arrival in the Algarve. We have made special arrangements for you to meet the hire car representative in the airport arrivals hall, and to complete the paperwork there. You can then collect your car from the airport car park and then pick up your party and luggage from the arrival hall door. The car can be returned to the car park after dropping off your party and luggage at departures, where they will be able to join the check-in queue. Many years of experience has shown that this method smoothes your way through the airport. There may be slightly cheaper car hire available, but is it worth it if you spend an extra hour or more on arrival and departure.

Hire Car Insurance

Whilst your hire car is fully insured, you will have an excess to pay in the event of an accident or theft. This is just like your voluntary excess on your car insurance at home. The excess will be quoted to you at the time of booking. You can waive this excess by paying a waiver of excess premium at Faro airport on arrival. This will be between 9 to 20 euros per day depending on the group of your car. See below for a cheaper option.

Waiver of Excess

We have arranged a special Insurance for Car Hire to cover you against excess payments in the event of damage or theft. You can take this insurance on an annual basis for £49 per year, or at £4.75 per day for the duration of your holiday. This is a substantial saving on what you will pay in Portugal, eg. Savings of up to £66 per week. The annual insurance will cover you in Europe for whichever car hire company you use, and your years cover can start at any date in the future you decide. We highly recommend you take this cover. The option to take this insurance will be made available to you with your booking confirmation

Baby Seats in Cars

Baby/child seats are compulsory until the age of 5 and are supplied providing you request at the time of booking your holiday. The charge is be 6 euros per day. Please inform us how many seats you require when you complete your booking.

Car Hire Pickup At Faro

Car hire pickup has become a problem at most airports, including Faro & Lisbon, and we are constantly reviewing collection procedures to get you away from Faro/Lisbon airport as quickly as possible after your arrival. Most companies operate a shuttle bus service to their nearby depots where you complete the paperwork and collect and return your car. In our opinion, this is not totally satisfactory for our type of client, and we have therefore made special arrangements with a leading local car hire company for our clients to complete the paperwork at the airport on arrival and also to collect their car there. The car can be returned to the airport parking area, but we recommend that the driver first drops his passengers at the airport in order to queue for check-in, and then returns the car to the parking area returning to the terminal on foot. This facility may be subject to change without notice.
